The Story of the Mugwort Herbal Mosquito Repellent Sachet: The Scent of Protection
In an ancient village, there lived a young girl named A Yao. Every summer, the nearby lakes and fields would attract swarms of mosquitoes, and the villagers would suffer from the bites. A Yao’s grandmother was a well-known herbalist in the village, and she would often harvest fresh mugwort during the Dragon Boat Festival, dry it, and make herbal sachets to repel mosquitoes and ward off evil spirits.
“Mugwort can not only repel mosquitoes but also bring peace and health,” her grandmother would say as she carefully sewed the sachets.
One summer, A Yao’s father, who had been working outdoors, caught a cold and couldn’t sleep well at night. The mosquitoes were making his discomfort worse. A Yao, worried, remembered her grandmother’s mugwort sachets. She immediately took some of the dried mugwort and carefully made a sachet, placing it by her father’s pillow.
Miraculously, that night, the mosquitoes seemed to disappear, and her father slept peacefully. The next morning, he woke up feeling much better. A Yao looked at the mugwort sachet in her hand, filled with gratitude.
From that time on, the villagers came to A Yao for advice, and she began to teach them her grandmother’s craft. Every summer, every household in the village placed mugwort sachets by their doors, windows, and pillows, filling the village with a gentle scent of mugwort that repelled mosquitoes and brought peace of mind.
The mugwort sachet became more than just a mosquito repellent; it carried the intention of protecting loved ones and became a warm symbol passed down through generations.
